Sam Peppard and His Prairie Wind Wagon Sculpture
During the drought of 1860, Samuel Peppard, an Oskaloosa millwright, was looking for adventure. He built a sturdy wagon, attached a sail to catch the breeze and sailed his way across the prairie in search of Colorado gold. Whether he found the gold or not is a mystery, but the wagon and its contents were destroyed by a tornado outside of Denver. The good news is that the three passengers survived. This sculpture was created by Matt Frazier and was originally commissioned as a 50th wedding anniversary present from Louise Barker to her husband, Roger.
