On March 28, 1919, the Jefferson County Tribune reported, "It is with profound regret that we must chronicle the death of little John Peebler, only son of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Peebler. John was a bright and likeable boy and the bereaved father and mother have the deepest sympathy of all." The Oskaloosa Independent said that Johnny had been ill with influenza and pneumonia. His mother also had influenza but recovered.

Chet, Cora, and Mildred moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Chet operated an automobile business for 20 years. Chet died in 1957. Cora passed in 1980, and Mildred in 2000. They are all buried, along with Johnny, in the Meriden Cemetery. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/123494271/chester_hamner-peebler
